On July 31st the first Cupcake Conference (#CupcakeConf) was held in Salt Lake City, Utah at the Grand America Hotel.

As the event was being planned, the organizers asked Scott Duehlmeier (@paco_belle on twitter) and myself Darin aka “Doc” (@iGoByDoc on Twitter) to present the first ever Keynote address.

We were happy to oblige, but did not really know what to present… so we decided to present “Scott and Doc go to Cupcake Conference… The #Cakeover”

Take a look at the day long expedition both Scott and myself went on as we journey’d out to find the best cupcake in Salt Lake City!

Also, once we arrived at the conference both Scott and myself, along with the head chef at Grand America, judged the cupcake decorating contest.

I was invited to Pioneer Park in Salt Lake City, Utah May 20th 2010 by my good friend Scott to take part in covering a great event called “Subway Day” by the Rescue Mission put on by Utah Subway restaurant owners and franchisees for the Rescue Mission of Salt Lake.

Utah Subways are always working with the community here in Salt Lake City, and this is the second time they worked with the Rescue Mission. This year more of the homeless community turned out than last year, and yesterday they were planning on 600 showing up but over 800 of the Utah homeless community showed up for the free meal provided by Subway where they received a 6″ sandwich, chips, fruit, a beverage and cookies for desert.

The Rescue Mission of Salt Lake is an amazing organization for the community, they house both men and women in separate facilities. They help to get the homeless off the streets, provide them a safe place to stay, and help to train these individuals to get them back into the local workforce and get their life back in order.

For me, it was awesome to be at the event and see what Subway and the Rescue Mission does for the community.

Not only did Subway provide the meals for the 800 individuals, but they also donated a check to the Rescue Mission of Salt Lake City for the amount of $10,000.

Way to go Subway for all you do and even more kudos goes to the Rescue Mission of Salt Lake City… You are all really good people!

Hello Utah and to everyone else around the US, and the world for that matter!

Today I am excited that The 12for12k Challenge announced that it is supporting a charity called Eye Care For Kids throughout the month of July 2009.

Eye Care For Kids is located right here in Salt Lake City, Utah!

Every childhood dream begins with a vision. Eye Care For Kids makes sure the vision can happen.

Eye Care for Kids has provided humanitarian aid to more than 20,000 children since 2001. Their program helps visually impaired kids from poor and low-income families get the treatment they so desperately need.

Just $25.00 will provide one child with an eye examination and a free pair of glasses.

Special attention to all fellow Utah bloggers, Facebook users and Twitterers, I am reaching out to you to help spread the word here in our state during July… and beyond.

This is an excellent organization, and I am so impressed with them every time I visit their offices and meet with founder Joseph Carbone.

I was lucky enough to meet up with Joseph a few months back, and was thrilled to be able to update their website, and start Eye Care For Kids on a social media path as well.
